A few days ago, I rooted my Amazon Fire HD 10 OS five.6.0.0 with kingoroot. I've customized my tablet and removed a lot of the unnecessary Amazon apps. I really like how my Amazon Burn HD 10 looks right now and don't want to encounter it become messed up because of an update.

Is there whatever certain way to stop the Amazon Fire Hard disk 10 from updating? I removed the DeviceSoftwareOTA.apk from the device already, but I've read elsewhere that simply removing the DeviceSoftwareOTA won't stop the updates from happening. Is there anything else I tin can do?

Aye, you as well need to remove ForcedOTA (com.amazon.kindle.otter.oobe.forced.ota). With both of these removed, no updates are possible.

From my feel on HD8 (7th Gen) on OS five.3.3.0 since September :

Even though I could not root HD8, I was able to "pm uninstall" both com.amazon.device.software.ota and com.amazon.kindle.otter.oobe.forced.ota

Since then, with WiFi continued everyday, information technology had never updated to a new version of Burn down OS.

Since information technology is rooted, apply ES File Explorer (change settings to give it root permission and prove subconscious files) and rename the file /arrangement/etc/security/otacerts.zip. It uses this file to verify the updates. While you are at it, I demand a copy of the otacerts.null file if you don't heed. I am trying to restore mine and lost information technology during a manufactory restore.

From my experience on HD8 (seventh Gen) on OS five.iii.3.0 since September :

Fifty-fifty though I could non root HD8, I was able to "pm uninstall" both com.amazon.device.software.ota and com.amazon.kindle.otter.oobe.forced.ota

Since and then, with WiFi connected everyday, information technology had never updated to a new version of Burn OS.

what did you set user as I ran this command pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.amazon.otter.oobe.forced.ota and got user non found

what did y'all set user as I ran this control pm uninstall -thousand --user 0 com.amazon.otter.oobe.forced.ota and got user not found

I am not sure what you are request. I did non "ready user".

The following were what I typed:
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.amazon.device.software.ota

pm uninstall -thousand --user 0 com.amazon.kindle.otter.oobe.forced.ota

Since information technology is rooted, use ES File Explorer (change settings to give it root permission and show hidden files) and rename the file /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip. It uses this file to verify the updates. While y'all are at it, I need a copy of the otacerts.zip file if you don't mind. I am trying to restore mine and lost information technology during a factory restore.

ES File Explorer has become crapware. Try Amaze file manager... simple, compact, all yous need without the unnecessary junk ES tries to foist on you at present.

what did you set user as I ran this command pm uninstall -one thousand --user 0 com.amazon.otter.oobe.forced.ota and got user non found

attempt replacing 0 with electric current so: -thou --user current
  • #nine
pm uninstall -one thousand --user 0 com.amazon.device.software.ota
pm uninstall -m --user 0 com.amazon.kindle.otter.oobe.forced.ota

I tried these two commands and I get a "failed to delete" message which I presume is because I take non rooted the tablet. There is an app called "Settings Database Editor". Does anyone have whatsoever feel with that? I used it to successfully disable the lock screen without rooting, but information technology looks similar I'm going to have to take the plunge and root in order to block the OTA updates. (first time working with an android device)

Near of the ability to disable organization apps has been patched already. The control you lot posted above has long been patched. Settings Database Editor is slap-up and powerful. Y'all're lucky you got the lock.disable to work. nine times out of 10 it doesn't.

So you lot are correct. Unless you got any of the known tools to work, the only way to truly end OTA is to destroy the application that handles them. My Hard disk drive 8 has been on v.4.0.0 or less for 2 about 3 years because the commands you lot posted above, totally disabled the app.

pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.amazon.device.software.ota
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.amazon.kindle.otter.oobe.forced.ota

My HD 8 has been on 5.4.0.0 or less for 2 nearly 3 years because the commands you posted above, totally disabled the app.

Practiced to know that these two commands is all what'southward needed. I was simply able to successfully execute them on a mtk-su rooted Fire Hard disk drive 10 "suez" running five.6.4.0.

Only out of curiosity,
1. Does anybody know what "otter" and "oobe" are supposed to mean, i.e. what com.amazon.kindle.otter.oobe.forced.ota is supposed to practice?
two. Some people also recommend to go rid of com.amazon.device.software.ota.override — what does this do?
3. Why do some people also remove com.amazon.settings.systemupdates — this is helpful for checking the electric current OS version, right?

Thank yous very much for all your work @DragonFire1024!

The first and second one are applications that grabbed OTA updates sent by Amazon to update the organisation of your device.vI would assume if ane application shuts downwardly the other one takes over. But like virtually things yous need one to work in order for the other to work. If you lot only disabled the second one no OTA updates will be sent to your device that volition upgrade or change Amazon organization similar giving you a new version of fire OS.

Removing the third i merely disables your ability to tap on the organization updates page in the settings application. it will not really cease any update from taking place on the device if it's disabled. It just removes your power to go anywhere near the update section or your ability to visually see what'due south going on in that location.
